Cholsey Hand B&B Lifeline!
With the season a true roller coaster of wins, loses, cup upsets and victories, Cholsey United was handed a true life line last Sunday.
A tough game against Burghfield saw CUFC losing 2-1 with around 10 minutes to go, fighting hard and edging closer and closer to an equaliser.
A horrific leg break to the Burghfield centre back Gary saw forced the ref to abandon the game so an ambulance could be called in.
Due to B&B rules the game is to be replayed this week.
Cholsey United FC wish to pass our best wishes to Gary and hope he makes a speedy recovery. An injury no player or club would wish on any of their opponents.

Gaffer's Mid-Season Review by C.Allum
It's been a mixed first half of season which has seen us knocked out of 2 cups but sitting well placed in league in 2nd place and only dropped 3 points out of 24.
We have stepped up well to the higher standard which has definitely been a step up in class. We strengthened in the summer with a few signings but had a major loss up front in Andy and that loss was higlighted first half of season, particularly when we lost Gibbo to injury too. However we managed to acquire Fletch from Goring and he has made an exceptional start with 7 goals in his first 3 games and with the addition of Phil Hedges and return of Gibbo we now look strong in attacking positions. At the other end, Jon has been a mainstay and ever present in goals for all of our 14 games so far this season but defensively we have been nowhere near as tight as last season and this has been mainly down to injuries and unavailability, personally I have missed half the games so far this season and the Franklin's have also missed a couple each and we have been forced to chop and change in the right back position. Also not great news on the defensive injury front with losing Smasher for rest of the season and my continual injury problems (I'm due injections in my knee on 18th Jan which will put me out for another couple of weeks) but with the likes of Brad, Clive and Fish we do have good options in the centre back area. Though I don't like to single players out, my stand out players in first half of season were Sean Clark (even though he has missed 5 games!), Paolo Di Pasquale (he has missed 6 games!), Matt Franklin and for the start to his CUFC career Alex Fletcher. Without doubt we need more commitment and consistency from all the players if we are going to succeed. Looking forward my challenge to the players is simple.....go and win the league and Berks & Bucks which both I know we are more than capbale of and then this again will be considered as another succesful season for the club. Our next game is in B & B at home on 8th Jan against AFC Burghfield and every team left in last 32 will be decent as like us they will have had to have beaten a few sides already. The crunch league games against Yellow Eagles will not be until at least February and before that we have a return to Sutton Wanderers in league on 22nd Jan where we were humiliated in November and knocked out of the Ridgeway Cup. Let's knuckle down and make sure we are a Division 1 side come September 2012 and have a couple more trophies in our cabinet come next May. A quick thanks to all of the commitee's continued efforts so far this season. Hope you have all had a great Xmas and here's to a successful 2012!.

Trouble in paradise?... don't be daft!
So with the season under way and 5 games under the belt Cholsey United is off to an 'interesting' start. No real surprise that the team is sitting in second place (on goal difference) but after conceeding more than double the number of goals let in last season in just 3 league games combined with a league defeat it has felt like a shakey start.
Lets face it though. If second place on goal difference and only one loss in the last 21 league games is considered bad, then it only goes to show the high standards set by everyone in the club.
It'll be a tougher season that is for sure but with the club back at one of the best pitches in Oxfordshire for their home games and reminded of how bitter the taste of defeat is, any opponent thinking a chink in the CUFC armour is there will have their work cut out to find it again.

2011 - 2012.... Here we go!
Sunday 4th September sees the start of the new season for CUFC.
A packed pre-season of friendly fixtures has the team well preparred for Division 2. While two of the pre-season games ended in defeat it was clear that the 'mid week blues' could easily be to blame (that and the two teams were North Berks Saturday sides as well.
Among the friendly games was the annual Flippy Fox Memorial which took place during the bank holiday weekend. A close game until the end where the current (somewhat depleated) team managed to beat the old boys 3-1 (after some very interesting reffing decisions we might add!).
Manager Chris Allum has a tough time this year with selection following plenty of new signings (new player profiles to be added soon!).
First up is a local derby vs Didcot Casuals.... could it be the start of another silver enriched season or the beginnings of a much tougher campaign... come watch and find out!

A tribute to Charlie 'Chaz' Allum
Sunday 12th June saw the tragic loss of Charlie 'Chaz' Allum. Charlie lost his fight to cancer at just 55 years of age.
Father to both the CUFC manager Chris Allum and the top goal scorer Andy Allum, Chaz was every young footballers dream father. Involved in all levels of the game, he offered massive support and encouragement to both his boys. Their achievements alone over the years are a testament to Charlie's love and devotion and through this Cholsey United have prospered greatly.
Charlie's loving wife Julie and kids Chris, Andy and Nicola have set up a donation fund for the charity AMMF who specialise in the research into cholangiocarcinoma cancer that Charlie was diagnosed with.
If you are reading this may we encourage you to visit www.justgiving.com/Nicky-allum and make a donation.
RIP Chaz.... make sure you set an alarm up there for 10.30am Sundays to look in on the game.

4 CUFC Players play in UTV charity game
Bank Holiday Monday saw 4 players from Cholsey United representing the club in the Upper Thames Valley Sunday League Representative XI.
Mikey Fellows, Dan Franklin, Jon Greenough and Martin Dawson all kindly agreed to play at short notice in the charity game against Tony Bagnall Abba Select XI.
The game was entertaining with no less than 8 goals scored overall leading to a final score of 4-4. The UTV team were narrowly pipped to the win in the penalty shoot-out.
Guest referee Dermot Gallagher was joined by celeb officials of Rob Wotton, Mike Wedderburn and Vicky Gomersall from the Sky Sports News team.

CHOLSEY UNITED DO THE DOUBLE!
April 17th saw Cholsey United collecting its second title in 2 weeks to complete a fantastic centenary year return.
A tough game went all the way to the wire until golden boot boy Andy Allum leapt like a salmon to head home the winner. A nervous last 10 minutes saw the opposition pushing hard for an equaliser and sterling work from the cholsey keeper and defence saw the game to a victorious conclusion.
With just 2 league games to go now (if the opposition shows up) the season is all but wrapped up! Hopefully the league cup will be presented at the game on 28th April vs Northway (again.. if they turn up!).

CUFC - Div 3b CHAMPIONS 2010-2011
Yes indeed as of 13/04/2011 Cholsey United can officially announce the league win!
While rumours on Sunday regarding the league withdrawal of Bowyers Arms have still not officially been confirmed on the league site, the announcement today that Jackass will not be forfeiting tomorrows game due to lack of players see's the final points needed to take the championship!
Leading into the Cup Final week the club couldn't hope for a better boost!
No confirmation has been made as to when the trophy will be raised but it is believed to be at the final home game of the season (yet to be scheduled).
Massive congratulations to everyone at the club for contributing to the league win!

March has seen a tough month for the club with the exit from the Berks & Bucks cup followed closely by an exit from the Devenney cup.

Sunday 13th... unlucky for us!
Well the day had to come sometime and Sunday 13th March saw Cholsey United losing their first game of the season and exiting the Berks & Bucks Junior trophy just one step away from the final.
Sadly the headlines show a drumming but at 1-1 after 90 minutes this was far from the case.
The team battles on however with the Devenney Cup Quarter Final on Sunday 20th, a further Semi to come and still sitting high at the top of the league!
A big thanks to all who made the trip over to Slough to watch the game! Lets keep the good support coming as there are plenty of games still to play get!

2 Quarters Down... 1 to go!
As the second month of the year closes, Cholsey United continue their cup onslaught destroying any fears of a 'new ground curse'!
Two tough quarter final ties in a month see CUFC progress into the Semi finals of both the Berks & Bucks and the Ridgeway cup with wins over Chalfont Wasps and Brightwell FC respectively.
While the goal average may be down a bit this month, the team has shown a true grit and resilience against higher level competition. The defence especially is proving as solid as ever with only 8 goals in total conceded over all 18 games played!
Into March we go with the final of the three quarter finals (The Devenney Cup) to come but only after the big B&B Semi final over in Slough on the 13th! Watch this space for news on a potential bus trip there!!

Home away from home.... Blewbury!
After many months of committee discussions, frosty mornings, blood, sweat, tears and a host of help from nice people, Cholsey United will see its first home game at Blewbury this Sunday!
Many (cold!) man hours have gone into measuring and marking the pitch over the last few weeks since the goals arrived early January.
With the pitch all marked up, some help from Paul Atkinson was greatly accepted so the post holes could be properly set in concrete.
So the pitch is all done, the goals (the same they have in Wembley i might add!) are all checked and assembled. Its now onto the new facilities.... and what facilities they are!
Images of it will come later so as not to spoil the surprise before Sunday but its safe to say they are good.... VERY GOOD!
Come and join us in Blewbury on the 6th and see it all for yourself!

Cups, Cups and more cups!!
Cholsey United have started the first of 4 cup games over 5 weeks with a convincing 6-1 win against Burghfield Reserves. With the toughest opposition so far this year, the team proved it could raise its game when needed and still find the net plenty of times!
Next week see's a crucial tie against Abingdon Knights where, on current form, a win would make promotion look very close indeed even at this stage of the season!
After this its Wallingford through and through with two home cup games against both Wally Exiles and Wally Keys in the Ridgeway and Devenney cups respectively.
With the new goals now delivered at Blewbury and just a matter of pitch marking and post concreting to come, Wallingford Exiles should be the first to test CUFC at their new home facilities!

2011.... a good year for CUFC?
New years often come with change and non more so than that of CUFC!
After the snowy period all eyes are set for a good start to 2011 at an all new home in Blewbury!
The pavilion is now virtually complete and preparation have been made for marking out the pitch.
New goals courtesy of an agreement with Cholsey Bluebirds are set to arrive week commencing 10th and after a bit of digging and concrete the home games may even commence there on the 16th of January.
Big thanks from the busy CUFC committee go to Glenn Hawkins (Cholsey Bluebirds) as well as Sheila, Tony and Richard in blewbury for helping make this all possible.
So all going well with the weather it should be game on into 2011.... silverware is just around the corner maybe?!

CUFC continues to win through the cold!
Cholsey United have continued their incredible winning ways with a further spate of solid wins in both cup and league.
After just 8 games the team awaits its 50th league goal and has still only conceded 3!
In the cup a recent 5-0 win saw the team into the Berks & Bucks 4th round while the cold snap postponed the earlier Ridgeway Cup fixture against Wallingford Exiles.
Top goal scorer Andy 'Pasty Head' Allum is still netting away with 24 goals to his name!
Just two games to go before the end of 2010 including a big fixture against Jackass FC..... will it be a perfect year?

CUFC complete a perfect month!
Cholsey United have broken the 4-0 pattern with a 7-0 victory instead! The Upper Thames Valley league ref Tim Siret repored on their site:
"Leaders Cholsey have made a sensational start to the season & are not too bothered they failed to notch their fourth 4-0 win, instead disposing of rivals Long Wittenham 7-0. They have yet to concede a goal all season, hardly surprising as a tight backline is well marshalled by Dan Franklin.
Top scorer Andy Allum hit his 8th & 9th goals of the season as they eased to a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break. Allum fired home the first, Clive Perryman doubled that lead. Witttenham`s first meaningful attack after 40 minutes ended when Chris Freeman made keeper Matty Leach push his goal bound shot around the post for a corner.
The second period Cholsey stepped up their constant pressure with Wittenham keeper John Slater keeping the score respectable with several fine saves. However Daryl Franklin soon made it 3-0 quickly followed by a strike from Allum to make it four. As it seemed Cholsey may settle for this score line, they pushed on & scored three late goals, the first as Ollie Saunders put through his own goal then sub Aidan Rowe fired home. Their was still time for the influential Tito Rodriguez to complete the rout.
Special mention must go to Wittenham veteran defender Brian Robbins who again put in a super shift."
The first home game of the season now looms against Bowyer Arms on 3rd Oct. With the league reduced to just 10 teams, a good cup run will be the next hurdle to ensure a suitable sized campaign!

Cholsey United off to flying league start!
Cholsey United have started the 2010-2011 league campaign with with two strong wins.
Last week saw a 4-0 win against Berinsfield in the first game of the season with a hat-trick from Andy Allum the highlight!
This week the team (lacking of hat-trick scorer Andy Allum, injured Brad Chalmers and Striker Michael 'Gibbo' Littleworth) matched that performance with another 4-0 win over JET.
Clive Perryman delivered a goal from a wild overhead kick in his debut where he partnered CUFC campaigner Tito Rodriguez who was filling in for injured Brad. Tito won a much deserved Man of the Match for his efforts.
Next week see's a return to Berinsfield in the Ridgeway Cup!

AGM Held - New Committee In Place
26th May 2010 saw the CUFC AGM held at the Morning Star (thanks to Landlord Steve!).
A strong attendance of avid Cholsey United enthusiasts saw a new committee elected.
Previous Chairman Harry Bonner, Vice Chairman Pete Hearmon and Treasurer George Crockett all stepped down from their club official roles with great admiration and thanks from all involved at the club.
John Eyres steps in as newly elected Chairman alongside his wife Kaye as Club Secretary.
Linda Fry steps in as new Club Treasurer with some much appreciated guidance and assitance from George Crockett who chose not to run again due to personal reasons.
The club also sees return to the successful management partnership of Chris Allum and Mark Bonner who look to draw in players from the younger generation while keeping the more senior members in check!
The road is still rocky and all is not set but with a fresh committee, combined community spirit and backing from many Cholsey faithful, the club see's a greatly strengthened chance of playing again before the year is out!
